It was a wonderful evening  of the Arts and Film with a special Screening of STEALING ALICE on Septemeber 15, 2017.  Denise Jackson and the Southeastern International Film Festival (SIFF) presented the film at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. The event began with a red carpet and VIP reception. The Canadian Consulate in Atlanta and Quebec Delegation gave welcoming remarks and introduced Marc Séguin in attendance from Québec. The audience enjoyed the 90 minute film followed by a Q&A with the artist/filmmaker. The talk was moderated by Leigh Stewart, Founder of SIFF and gave insight into the film and artistic process.

Manhattan, Venice and the Vatican. Internationally recognized artist, Marc Séguin, will be in attendance from Québec for the reception, screening and an insightful Q&A following the film.

Film Synopsis

Alice Andanack was born to an Inuit mother and Québecois father. She is an art dealer, but also a young woman with an uncommon social rage.  Educated yet wild, she talks to ghosts and decides to avenge the religious and colonial heritage that was imposed on her mother’s people. She tries to understand the origins of vengeance.

With her sister, we follow Alice on her quest for survival and meaning, between Québec, Manhattan, Venice and the Vatican. She steals art and tries to finds answers to her questions. Stealing Alice is an ode to love, vengeance and solitude, a story of rage and beauty.

It was shot in many countries over a period of eighteen months and features Fanny Mallette and Denys Arcand. This will be the first screening in the US.

Stealing Alice is the first feature film written and directed by painter and author, Marc Séguin. As a painter, his art has been exhibited throughout the world (Basel, Hong Kong, Berlin, London and New York, where he has his studio). He is widely collected internationally by many contemporary art museums. He has published three critically acclaimed fiction novels.
